GETTING A VOTER REGISTRATION CARD

Description: Fill out a one-page mail in voter registration form. You must bring or mail the form to the Town Hall or City hall for the town where you live. You are only ineligible for a voter registration card if you were convicted of a felony and you are still on parole. If you’re on probation, if you’ve completed your sentence, or if you were only convicted of a misdemeanor, you are eligible to vote.

GETTING A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD

Description: Completed application for a Social Security office and at least two documents to prove age, identity, and US citizenship necessary. More info on page 7 here.

GETTING AN ELM CITY RESIDENT CARD

Description: $11 for adults 17 and up, $6 if under 17. The Elm City Resident Card offers New Haven Residents discounted prices at participating businesses, and access to library and Parxmart services. It includes a debit function and can be used as a second form of ID for local banks. More information on pages 8-9 here.

GETTING A STATE PHOTO ID

Description: The Dept of Motor Vehicles issues a Non-Driver photo ID card to CT residents who do not possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or whose license is suspended. The ID card lasts 5-7 years. Apply at any full service DMV branch office or the Winsted Satellite office. More information on pages 9-10 here.
